The property at 56 Lange Haven is a former distillery. It is now called ‘De Bonte Koe’. The walls of the building have been left in a rugged state and you can still see the barrels in the floor. The air is now scented with chocolate instead of yeast.
Goddess of hope
The two-storey building with double gable has a beautifully carved light that represents the goddess of hope with a dove and an anchor. Directly above it is a plaque featuring the goddess and bearing the text: “1724 De hoop in den hoove van ‘s-herten vreden”.
